- Does Dṛṣṭi-Sārathi apply the brakes or take control?
- No, and that is a deliberate design position. It is advisory: it alerts, it never overrides. A perception system that intervenes has to be certified to a completely different standard, and a system that quietly acts against the pilot's judgement erodes the trust it needs to be useful.
- How does this relate to Kavach?
- Kavach is a train protection system built around signalling and train separation. Dṛṣṭi-Sārathi looks at what is physically on the track ahead — obstructions, people, livestock — which is a different class of hazard that signalling-based protection does not address.
- Does it work at night and in poor visibility?
- Degraded visibility is the condition where a second pair of eyes is most valuable, so it is a design target rather than an edge case. Actual performance envelope depends on the sensor configuration chosen for the deployment.
- What happens to the video it captures?
- Processing is done on the locomotive rather than streamed off it. Retention and access follow the operator's policy, which matters because a forward-facing camera on a locomotive is subject to the same governance concerns as any other crew-facing recording.
